Mulberry Silk is the highest quality silk available, which of course is why we have chosen to use it in our products. Mulberry Silk is made from silkworms that are raised in captivity in a very methodical and considerate environment. When the silkworms are born they are exclusively fed Mulberry leaves, which in fact the only thing they eat. After about a month and their weight has increased roughly 10,000 times the worms are ready so spin their sought after cocoons, which can take between 3 to 8 days to weave.
Once this process is complete the cocoons are softened in water with the worm being removed, the cocoons are then unwound, producing anything up to 1,000 meters of silk. An alternative process involves softening the cocoon, removing the worm and stretching the cocoon over an upside-down U shaped stand, which is an incredible process to watch.
Mulberry silk is one of the strongest and most durable forms of silk, which is what makes it so ideal for bedding. Due to the fact we don't use chemicals on our products and the natural fungal repellency of Mulberry Silk it means that over time the silk won't deteriorate.
This is why it is so important for you to buy bed linens that are made from 100% Silk rather than a cheaper silk mix version. With the many benefits that silk provides it really is worth spending that extra little bit of money and time to make sure it's right for you.
